Letter From beVermont to All Vermonters

Yes, it's the 13th day of March which is not supposed to be happy day. But honestly not too many people care any more and it's same here. Instead we posted a copy of short message or letter to all Vermonters, it's a much happier subject! Get your own copy here and please don't keep it only to yourself, share it with every other Vermonter you know. Friends, neighbors, classmates, coworkers, everybody at the store or restaurant :) beVermont will get better for you and all of us with more people visiting.

Newspapers vs. beVermont

We have not heard many positive words from newspapers. We get the point if we represent competition to them. But do we? Really? We don't compete, we are very young project and our benefits to folks are different. We are not printed on paper, we do not have long tradition, we are only online and plan to stay that way and we print no articles or stories. If any person wants their classified ads to have an option to be read by folks in 585 towns and 27 counties and 24 hours a day, that's what beVermont is for. If they prefer to support local newspaper for its stories and articles and also for its classifieds' section, that's where paper always leads. We only handle classifieds, that's 100% of our "content", paper's classifieds are read by 3 to 5% of readers so not too much, but they have more than just classifieds. We are free of charge, they are mostly paid for. They are better for some reasons, we are better for classifieds. Competition? We don't think so.

Sharing beVermont Is Unusual?

Many good deals and solid services are not shared, people like to keep it all only to themselves. Also to keep the source less busy. Understood. But beVermont is different in that it becomes better with more people using it. "Busy" does not happen here, the software has been developed for millions of users (if needed). So if you like it and want to make it better, tell your friends, coworkers, classmates, any Vermonters you meet. Result? With more users you will get more options and ads, more people offering things and buying things and who knows, it may be you on the other side. Mistakes Happen ...

I should not talk about this, but I will. beVermont is still very new project and it's good to admit that errors in software happen. Today I went through the personal home page after user logs in and found 3 or 4 small glitches there. No, no security issues or some parts of underlying software system, all that was perfect. But simple links to other pages were off. When user clicked on one such link, they would generate page error instead of visiting the next page. We should keep it secret so we look better, but we made a mistake and now it's corrected.

Lost Password

Things happen ... sometimes you forget your password and cannot log in. That used to be a problem, but no more. Try to log in and if you can't remember your password, click "I forgot my password ..." link. It will take you step by step and you will end up with new password in just minute or so.

Example Ads

beVermont is very new project. To make it look a little more busy we have added a few sample ads to the system. No these folks don't seel a bicycle or house, but it's an example that could inspire you. Here is the link (if it's still valid), tak a look and try to post your own ads. Fair Question

We received very fair question. You may like it or not like it, but here it is: "How did you get to 585 towns?? What list are you using?" Answer is that we have not used any list, we simply used geography and a lot of manual work. Sure, boring and a lot of labor, but it's the truth. It took a lot of time, but at least we have the most complete list of towns.
